CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — A pair of streets in Champaign will see either partial or total lane closures starting Monday to complete maintenance and repairs to the sewer systems.
The work is happening on Harvard Street and Bloomington Road between Prospect and Harris Avenues. On Harvard, Lanz Underground will be completing a sanitary sewer repair, requiring the road to be closed for one week — Sept. 29 to Oct. 6 — weather permitting.
Through traffic will not be allowed, but access will be maintained to all local properties, city officials said.
On Bloomington, National Power Rodding Corp. will be working on routine storm sewer maintenance. Officials said temporary lane closures may cause delays, but no total road closures are planned.
The City of Champaign has issued a noise ordinance waiver to modify construction hours, with work happening between 4-7 a.m. This is to allow work to be done before the early morning commute, officials said.
Work is scheduled to be finished by Friday, Oct. 3, but this work is also weather-dependent.
Drivers are advised to use alternate routes to avoid delays, but if they must go near or through the work zones, drivers should pay attention to traffic control devices and proceed cautiously.
