TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A drunk, wrong-way driver narrowly missed crashing head-on into a Tampa officer late last month, according to the police department.

A video from the Tampa Police Department released Wednesday shows the officer responding to a wrong-way driver call on March 27. Moments later, the wrong-way driver, who was not identified, is seen barreling down the road and narrowly avoiding a head-on crash into the officer’s patrol car.

“She almost killed me,” the officer said. “I sat there, held the steering wheel, and closed my eyes. She was flying at me.”

The officer said he pulled the driver over and noticed she was showing several signs of impairment.

“Did you not see me on the road there?” the officer asked.

“I did. Yeah,” the driver said.

“You just didn’t want to stop?” the officer questioned.

“I just didn’t see that you were … I was going the wrong way. I’m sorry,” the woman told the officer.

The woman was arrested after she failed a field sobriety test. The police department said her Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC) was 0.275, about three times the limit.

“Every impaired driver is a danger on the road, not just to themselves, but to every family, friend, and officer out there. Help us protect our community. Never drive under the influence,” Tampa police posted on Facebook.
