Sheriff: 1 arrested after alleged Smyth Co. homicide

SMYTH COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — A man has been arrested after an alleged homicide in Smyth County Thursday.

According to the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 400 block of Dry Cove Lane in Saltville after receiving a call about a shooting. Officers with the Saltville and Chilhowie Police Departments also responded to the scene.

When law enforcement arrived, they found Michael Stonewall Blevins dead.

The sheriff’s office stated that Skyler Lee Chance Hughes, 26, of Saltville, was identified as the shooter in the incident.

Hughes was taken into custody without incident and charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Hughes was transported to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon. The Smyth County Sheriff’s Office stated he is being held without bond as of Friday morning.
