WASHINGTON (AP) — An 18-year-old man was taken into custody by U.S. Capitol Police on Tuesday after he approached the Capitol Building’s west side with a shotgun. The incident occurred in Washington, D.C.

Identified as Carter Camacho from Smyrna, Georgia, the suspect had parked his Mercedes SUV near the Capitol before sprinting “several hundred yards” toward the building while armed. Capitol Police Chief Michael Sullivan reported that officers quickly intercepted Camacho, instructing him to drop the weapon and lie on the ground, leading to his arrest.
