Shopify Experiences Outage on Cyber Monday, Restricting Vendor Account Access

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Cyber Monday shoppers may encounter significant challenges as one of the largest e-commerce platforms, Shopify, is experiencing a substantial service disruption.

On Monday morning, Shopify, which facilitated the majority of online transactions in the United States last year, announced the outage impacting its services.

In a statement shared on social media, Shopify acknowledged, “We’re aware of an issue with Admins impacting selected stores, and are working to resolve it.”

The company’s status page indicates that the disruption is preventing merchants from accessing their point-of-sale (POS) systems and mobile platforms, potentially affecting sales during this peak shopping period.

As of 12:39 p.m., Shopify has implemented multiple measures to help vendors, but issues remain with POS checkouts.

Shopify clients on social media complained that this was a big problem as they needed to conduct their sales on social media.

“@Shopify what’s the status of fixing the store issues today?” one X user wrote. “The fact I can’t access my store during our Black Friday sale is unacceptable…”

“On the biggest online sales day of the year, your platform crashed and merchants cannot access their stores,” wrote another. “When this outage is fixed, what concrete steps will you take to ensure it never happens again, and will you be waiving monthly fees for the disruption?”

“Hey @Shopify @ShopifySupport you need call this outage like it is… a full blown major outage!” X user Nate Olson wrote. “People can’t get into their admin, POS is down, can’t fulfill orders, etc.

“Degraded performance is just to try and protect your 3 9’s of uptime. Quit lying to the customers, we don’t care about your uptime. We care about the truth. MAJOR OUTAGE!”
