SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Islands alum Veronica Sierzant just completed her second season with Syracuse volleyball.

News 3 spoke with her this summer as she prepares for her junior campaign.

Sierzant played in 27 of their 32 matches and made 17 starts last year. The Savannah native was first on the team in assists with 659 and ninth in the ACC in assists per set. Against Norte Dame, she posted a career-high 56 assists in a five-set win.

She also finished with 234 digs, which ranked fourth for the Orange.

Last fall, the conference added West Coast teams: Standford and California. They also added Southern Methodist University from Texas. So Sierzant logged a lot of miles this past season.

“I thought it was honestly really fun because I never thought I’d get to play or go to the West Coast to play volleyball,” Sierzant said. “I thought it was a really unique experience, and we had a lot of fun too, because, as you know, I’m a basketball fan, too. So, I got to play in the arena where Cameron Brink played.”

The first date Syracuse could play a contest this fall is Aug. 29. Their first practice date will be 17 before the first scheduled competition.
