ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (BLOOM) — To celebrate Juneteenth, AMC Theatres is bringing back the box office hit Sinners for one day only at a discounted price, just $5 at select locations.

The supernatural horror film, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, will screen June 19 as part of AMC’s “Fan Faves” lineup at 337 locations nationwide, including local theaters in the Tampa Bay area.

The special pricing is part of a Juneteenth initiative developed by AMC’s internal advisory council on the African American experience, in collaboration with its film programming team. The goal, AMC says, is to spotlight powerful Black storytelling and create space for reflection and celebration during the federal holiday, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.

Sinners isn’t just a thriller, it’s a statement piece,” AMC said in a release. “This Juneteenth, we’re giving audiences another chance to experience its bold narrative and powerhouse performances on the big screen.”

In addition to Sinners, AMC will also host an early access screening of 40 Acres, an upcoming action-thriller from Magnolia Pictures. Directed by R.T. Thorne and starring Danielle Deadwyler, 40 Acres imagines a post-apocalyptic America where a Black family must defend their land from a violent militia. That screening will take place at 100 AMC locations ahead of its national release on July 2.

The discounted “Fan Faves” price, typically around $5, offers a steep savings compared to standard evening ticket rates. Prices may vary slightly by location.

Juneteenth, officially recognized as a federal holiday in 2021, honors June 19, 1865, the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

For AMC, the holiday presents an opportunity to “strengthen cultural awareness and continue advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion,” the company said.
