TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The tropics remain quiet as we enter the second week of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.

No new tropical development is expected in the Atlantic basin in the next seven days, according to the National Hurricane Center.

It’s a different story over in the eastern Pacific, where hurricane season began in mid-May.

Barbara became a short-lived hurricane off the coast of Mexico and has since weakened back into a tropical storm. It is forecast to dissipate on Wednesday.

Nearby, Tropical Storm Cosme is expected to remain at near-hurricane strength before weakening begins Tuesday night.

The NHC is monitoring an area near the two storms with a high chance of development over the next seven days. It has a near-zero percent chance of development in the next 48 hours.
