In Smyth County, Tennessee, Commonwealth’s Attorney Phillip Blevins Jr. announced on Sunday that his office will not endorse criminal charges based solely on technical breaches of the forthcoming “assault weapons ban” set to be enacted on July 1.
The new law, signed by Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat, on Friday, criminalizes the import, sale, manufacture, transfer, or purchase of assault weapons, with specific exceptions. Furthermore, it prohibits the import, sale, barter, transfer, or purchase of magazines that can hold more than 15 rounds of ammunition, again with some exceptions.
