TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A domestic incident led to a large police presence along West Chestnut Street in Tampa Friday night.

Multiple patrol cars, ambulances and other types of emergency vehicles lined the street just after 8:30 p.m., with red and blue lights flashing.

A spokesperson for the Tampa Police Department told News Channel 8 the response was due to a domestic-related call that left a woman and child injured. Their injuries were believed to be non-life threatening.

One man was reportedly taken into custody related to the incident.

A News Channel 8 crew saw a man being taken out of the back of a patrol car and loaded into an ambulance. As of Friday night, police had not confirmed why he was in the back of a patrol car nor the man’s involvement in what happened.

Witnesses described the incident as “tragic,” recalling shouting and opening their blinds to see paramedics rushing out.

“I heard teenagers screaming like, ‘Help, help, help, help, he about to throw her off the balcony, he about to throw her off the balcony’,” one woman said.

One woman didn’t feel comfortable coming down from her apartment, so she spoke with News Channel 8 reporter Nicole Rogers over the phone.

“I jumped up, [and] opened up my blinds,” Vernisha Cooper said. “I said, ‘something ain’t right, I hear police’.”

“Next thing I know, I see the police and I see the paramedics and that’s when they were rushing out that baby,” she continued.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear Friday night, and no further information was immediately available.
