SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. — At a President’s Day banquet held at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium, five Republican hopefuls for the South Carolina governor’s seat gathered to make their case to the public on Monday evening.

This event, organized by the Spartanburg County Republican Party, was the first occasion where Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, state Sen. Josh Kimbrell, Attorney General Alan Wilson, and U.S. Representatives Nancy Mace and Ralph Norman appeared together. The candidates were eager to engage with the audience and share their visions for the state.

Each gubernatorial candidate set up tables to display their campaign materials and interacted with attendees before the formal program began. When the event commenced, they were given five minutes each to present their platforms to an audience of 450 guests.

U.S. Rep. William Timmons and his primary challenger, David Atchley, addressed attendees about the 4th Congressional District race.

Senate hopefuls Paul Dans and Mark Lynch, both challenging incumbent Sen. Lindsey Graham, also addressed the crowd.

Attorney General contenders Stephen Goldfinch and David Pascoe shared their messages with voters as well.

Organizers said straw poll ballots were handed out during the final minutes of the speeches. Results are expected by Tuesday.
