CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Gov. Henry McMaster has proclaimed this week as “South Carolina Heat Safety Week,” and it comes as temperatures rise ahead of the summer season.

Officials have shared tips on how to stay safe in the heat.

People are reminded to drink plenty of water, avoid physically difficult activities during the hottest parts of the day, usually between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles—even for a few minutes.

A seasonal forecast released by the Climate Prediction Center in April shows a warmer-than-average outlook for nearly every state over the next three months.

While nearly the entire U.S. is expected to see warm weather, the East Coast expects more rain than average over the next three months, which could help the drought conditions.
