TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Denyse Riveiro finally has her insurance check so she can move forward with fixing her hurricane-ravaged home and move back.
It took five months to get answers and to get the money. She had received less than 3 percent of the claim.
“We weren’t hearing anything … they wouldn’t even call us back,” Riveiro said. “But when you called them, they called back, and the check came like two days later.”
Before she called Better Call Behnken, she had received only $5,000 of her insurance claim and the remainder of her $157,000 claim is caught up in red tape. She was forced to start work to save her home.
“I maxed out a $20,000 card; I owe $20,000,” Riveiro said at the time. “I maxed out another one for $10,000. I maxed out another one for $10,000. I maxed out another one for $18,000. I too, $50,000 out of a retirement fund.”
Now, she has every penny. She said the processing company says there was a backlog of checks to process, and they apologized for the delay.
“I can relax now,” she said. “Things are happening. I’m in control of what’s going on, and that means so much to me. But being able to sleep at night and not worried about all the bills and what’s coming through and what’s not coming through. I can’t thank you enough. It just been so much better.”
