SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — 60 new United States citizens will be officially naturalized on Wednesday in a special ceremony at the Old State Capitol in Springfield this week.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois are hosting the ceremony on Wednesday, with the Oath of Allegiance to be administered by Judge Colleen Lawless

“USCIS often conducts naturalization ceremonies at museums, schools, libraries and other notable locations to celebrate the conclusion of an immigrant’s journey to citizenship and honor the commitment they have shown along the way,” said Kate Carroll of the U.S. Clerk’s Office. “Special venues not only make these events meaningful for those who have voluntarily chosen to participate in American democracy and dedicated themselves to the country’s future, but they also reflect the strength and spirit of the United States.”

The citizenship candidates come from the following 25 countries:

  • Algeria
  • Angola
  • Australia
  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • China
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Honduras
  • India
  • Indonesia

  • South Korea
  • Mauritania
  • Mexico
  • Nepal
  • Nigeria
  • Pakistan
  • Peru
  • Philippines
  • Russia
  • South Africa
