KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — Jason Joyner embarked on his teaching journey in his hometown of Hawkins County, where he dedicated 18 years to educating students in science. Recently, he has been inspiring young minds by teaching seventh and eighth-grade science at John Sevier Middle School for the past three years.

“I love nurturing the academic curiosity in my students,” Joyner shared. “My aim is to equip them with fundamental skills that will pave the way for their success in high school. The knowledge they gain here is foundational for subjects like biology, chemistry, and physics.”

Each day, Joyner engages with over 100 students, passionately teaching them the intricacies of physics and chemistry.

John Sevier Middle School’s Principal, Kyle Loudermilk, praised Joyner’s teaching style, saying, “His students are truly engaged by his methods. They’re always eager, sitting on the edge of their seats, hungry to learn more. He does an exceptional job.”

For Joyner, the true reward lies in witnessing the long-term impact of his teaching on students, well after they have moved on from his classroom.

“I really enjoy running into my students 8 to 10 years after they have me. And I have students that are engineers to doctors. I actually have one that is gaining her doctorate in anatomy from Ohio State. And, I like to think I played a little role in that, my actually doing that,” Joyner said.

Congratulations to Jason Joyner, this Week’s Educator of the Week.
