SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A medical group serving Central Illinois will be laying off staff members.
WCIA confirmed with Springfield Clinic their plans to lay off staff. They said the organization is “facing financial challenges” due to an increase in operational costs, constraints for insurance reimbursement and nationwide economic pressures.
“While we have worked hard to absorb these impacts, we must now make difficult but necessary adjustments, including budget and workforce reductions,” Zach Kerker, Springfield Clinic’s Chief Brand and Advocacy Officer, said in a statement to WCIA. “These decisions are not made lightly, and we stay deeply committed to providing high-quality health care while ensuring long-term sustainability for our patients, employees and the community we serve.”
Officials did not say how many or what type of positions will be eliminated or where laid offs will happen. They also did not provide any timeline for the layoffs.
Springfield Clinic said they serve more than half a million patients in 20 counties. They employ 3,500 people in both clinical and administrative positions.
