SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Springfield is looking to add more hardware to the trophy case along what has already been a big season for the Senators.

The team will make their first-ever appearance in the state semifinals after a thrilling super-sectional win over Triad in penalty kicks.

Playing this deep in the postseason is unfamiliar for everyone on this roster, but they’re grateful to be a part of this ground-breaking season.

“I think everyone is super talented. I think we have a lot of personalities that mesh really well together,” junior Kamryn Hoffman said. “Chemistry is good, like it’s just all good all around.”

“Not only going to state, but just, winning regionals, even things like that,” senior Rylee Clark said. “None of the seniors, we haven’t experienced that at all, so from going to winning our first regional to state really means a lot.”

“This program has probably deserved it well before this time, head coach Pat Phillips said. “I’m just glad that it’s finally happened for the school and program.” “We have a special group, and hopefully they can just keep it going.”

The Senators play Peoria-Notre Dame on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Naperville.
