SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A Springfield man was arrested this week after police said he attacked a woman in a public bathroom and threatened her with a knife.
The attack happened at the Walgreens on MacArthur Boulevard just after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Springfield Police said in a release Friday morning. Commander Jarod Maddox said a woman went into the bathroom and a man followed her inside.
“The male displayed an open knife and threatened the female with the knife,” Maddox said. “The male then battered the female victim and immediately fled the area.”
Officers later located 35-year-old Malcolm D. Hill in the area and positively identified him as the suspect in the attack. Court records show he’s been formally charged with aggravated battery, unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault.
He made an initial court appearance on Thursday, where he was granted pretrial release with conditions. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 2.
The Springfield Police Department asked that anyone with information on this incident should call 217-799-8311 or submit an anonymous tip to Sangamon/Menard County Crime Stoppers at 217-788-8427.
