SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A Springfield man was arrested on Sunday after police said he committed an armed robbery and retail theft at a CVS Pharmacy over the weekend.
The crime happened on Sunday around 8 p.m. at the store on Carpenter Street. Commander Jarod Maddox with the Springfield Police Department told WCIA that the person arrested was Thomas R. Wilson, 33 of Springfield.
“There was some altercation between him and a clerk,” Maddox explained. “During that altercation, he revealed a firearm and left the business with some items.”
The clerk was not hurt during the robbery, Maddox added.
Records from the Sangamon County Jail show Wilson was booked into the jail at 11:43 p.m. on Sunday, within a few hours of the robbery. He is facing preliminary charges of armed robbery and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, which are Class X and Class 4 felonies, respectively, as well as a misdemeanor count of retail theft.
Maddox said that while Wilson was booked on these charges, he is unsure if Wilson was formally charged by the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office. Court records show no cases opened against Wilson as of Monday afternoon.
