SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Savannah State University’s public radio station is marking a significant milestone this year as it celebrates half a century of broadcasting.

Established in 1975, WHCJ-FM (90.3 FM) was created to educate its audience through a diverse array of programs, news, and specialized content. Five decades later, it continues to serve as the voice of Savannah State, providing students with invaluable opportunities to hone their communication and broadcasting skills.

In honor of this landmark anniversary, the station is hosting an Open House during homecoming week. This event invites faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the public to engage with the station and reflect on its rich history.

Grace Curry, Station Manager at WHCJ-FM, expressed enthusiasm about the occasion, stating, “This anniversary is a testament to the enduring influence of college and public radio in connecting, educating, and inspiring our community. We are excited to welcome everyone who has been part of our journey to join us in this celebration.”

The Open House is scheduled for October 23, from noon to 5 p.m., at WHCJ in Hodge Hall. Attendees are required to register beforehand, with registration available through this link.
