ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A St. Petersburg officer who was arrested and placed on leave in August 2024 will not be prosecuted, the St. Petersburg Police Department said Tuesday.

Officer John Antoine was arrested and charged with one count of domestic-related aggravated assault on Aug. 27 after the mother of his children said he had made threatening comments to her outside her home in Pinellas Park.

The woman alleged that Antoine had threatened her while in full uniform and armed.

The Pinellas Park Police Department took over the investigation since the incident occurred within its jurisdiction. Antoine was placed on administrative leave with no pay during the two-month investigation.

By October, officials said the 6th Judicial Court concluded that the facts and circumstances did not warrant prosecution against Antoine.

However, a Command Review Board did determine that Antoine violated City of St. Petersburg rules and regulations for employees. The board listed his violations as the following:

  • Failure to keep the department notified of current address and if any,
    telephone number
  • Unlawful or improper conduct either on or off the job, which an employee
knows or reasonably should know could negatively affect the employee’s
relationship to the job, fellow workers, reputation, or goodwill in the
    community

As a result, Antoine was suspended for an additional 150 hours without pay and was barred from using a police take-home vehicle for 18 months. The Board also required that Antoine attend counseling.

The St. Petersburg Police Department said Antoine was initially sworn in as an officer on Oct. 2, 2017.
