CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Hunter Madigan, a senior at St. Thomas More, is determined to conclude his high school tennis career with a championship, after his journey in the IHSA state tennis was cut short in the third round during his junior year.
As he approaches the end of the regular season, Madigan remains unbeaten, with just one match left to play.
Sabers’ head coach, Greg Cohen, remarked, “Hunter ranks among the elite players to emerge from this region.”
In the previous year, Madigan’s run in the IHSA Class 1A state finals ended at the hands of the ultimate champion, after he breezed through the tournament, claiming victory at sectionals.
“I’m feeling confident,” Madigan shared. “I’ve been putting in a lot of practice with various coaches, and I’m thrilled to compete alongside my team in this postseason. Reaching this milestone has been a long-term ambition of mine, and achieving it would fulfill a goal I’ve pursued for years.”
Madigan will compete in the sectional hosted by Centennial on Friday, May 22.
