In Statesboro, Georgia, a potentially dangerous situation unfolded at a local Walmart, leading to the arrest of a man who caused alarm by wielding a BB gun. The unsettling incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, around 12:47 p.m., at the Walmart Supercenter situated on Northside Drive.
The Statesboro Police Department swiftly responded to reports of a man brandishing what appeared to be a firearm, creating a wave of panic among shoppers and staff. Acting quickly, Walmart employees managed to isolate the suspect within the Garden Center section of the store. When officers arrived, they were able to apprehend the individual without further escalation.
The suspect was identified by authorities as 40-year-old Nathaniel Anthony Jones. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Jones had entered the store and used a tool to forcibly open a glass display case, obtaining a BB gun. He then threatened both a woman and a child with the weapon, heightening the alarm among those present.

Jones had been previously incarcerated on burglary charges. Officials say he was released from the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) on Monday, just a day before this incident took place.
Jones was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and burglary in the second degree.
No injuries were reported during this incident.
