STATESBORO, Ga. () — Snow has piled up on the sidewalks and railings along the Blue Mile in Statesboro.

Officials are asking everyone to shelter in place to keep from causing accidents that tie up first responders. A state of emergency has been issued in both Statesboro and Bulloch County.

GDOT has salted roads along the hurricane evacuation route for the County. Bulloch County deputies are stationed throughout the county watching for people losing traction on the roads.

Sheriff Noel Brown said they’re fine with people playing snow – as long as it’s on their own property. He warned against riding roads after the storm saying their office is prepared to charge anyone with destruction of public property if they see it fit.

Bulloch County Fire warned that people need to use caution when heating their homes.

Joe Carter said you should keep three feet between a space heater and anything flammable. Also try not to overload one single outlet, and if you’re using an extension cord don’t use one that’s cheap and flimsy for any of your heating.

Power outages are expected, and officials ask that you don’t clog up emergency lines if your power goes out.

If you need somewhere else to stay, Pittman Park UMC is offering a warming shelter as part of Bulloch County VOAD.
