SAVANNAH, Ga. () – Early Tuesday, the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) revealed its initiative to launch a scam awareness campaign aimed at informing residents and equipping them with the tools to steer clear of current scam tactics.
Under the banner “STOP. CHECK. PROTECT.,” the CCPD plans to disseminate this message through various educational resources, promotional activities, and community seminars across the region.
Here’s how the CCPD elaborates on each component of their campaign:
STOP: When approached, take a moment to breathe and settle your nerves. Scammers often exploit urgency and fear to catch their targets off guard. By pausing the interaction, you grant yourself the clarity to assess the situation more rationally.
CHECK: Always confirm the information you receive independently. No legitimate situation demands an immediate decision, regardless of the pressing “financial crisis” a scammer might present.
PROTECT: Guard your personal and financial information, and never give any of it out to an unexpected caller or through an unsolicited text or email.
CCPD will hold its first STOP.CHECK.PROTECT. scam information session on Thursday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m., and it will be a joint effort with the Garden City Police Department (GCPD). The event is free and open to the public and will take place at Garden City Hall located at 100 Central Avenue in Garden City.
