STOCKHOLM – The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is set to announce this year’s Nobel Prize in physics on Tuesday in Stockholm.
In 2025, three scientists received the physics prize for their work on the unusual behavior of subatomic particles known as quantum tunneling. Their research helped make the ultra-sensitive measurements used in MRI machines possible and contributed to advances in cellphones and faster computers.
This year’s Nobel announcements began Monday, when three scientists were awarded the medicine prize for research that produced a light-based tool for investigating how the brain works.
The chemistry prize will be announced Wednesday, followed by the literature prize on Thursday. The Nobel Peace Prize is scheduled for Friday, while the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences will be announced Oct. 12.
This year’s prize amount is 12 million Swedish kronor, or approximately $1.2 million, for each award, whether it goes to an individual, a small group of laureates or an organization.
