TOLONO, Ill. (WCIA) — The strength of Sunday’s high winds was seen in Tolono. A building owned by the Illinois Foundation Seeds was brought to the ground with debris scattered several yards away.

An employee of the company told WCIA that the building was used for storage. On Sunday, however, it turned into a scene of downed power lines and exposed structure. Sheet metal blew in the wind as pieces hung by singular wires.

Some heard about the damage and had to see it for themselves.

“It looks like we had some strong westerly or southwesterly wind gusts coming through,” storm chaser Andrew Pritchard said. “I mean, not the most sturdy structure in the world… but it looks like those winds were able to get under there and disrupt this structure here and once it came apart, we had pieces of sheet metal that were then blown against the building here kind of wrapped around the powerlines as well.”

Tolono Fire Protection District said they handled a small fire at the site after it collapsed. The employee who spoke with WCIA said she’s not sure what was stored in the building.
