Storm Team 3: Cold front brings cool and sunny week

SAVANNAH, Ga. — A cold front sweeping through the region is set to usher in a classic autumnal week.

Early in the week, residents can anticipate partly to mostly cloudy skies, which will clear by Monday morning as cooler, drier air moves in. While a fresh northerly breeze will be noticeable, it shouldn’t cause any issues except for those on the water. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect overnight, but conditions are expected to calm by morning.

Monday promises to be a delightful day with cool temperatures at dawn, abundant sunshine, and pleasant afternoon highs in the 70s. By Tuesday morning, expect a slight dip in temperatures, with the mercury falling to the upper 40s and lower 50s, thanks to clear skies and lighter winds.

Midweek, another cold front will pass through, reinforcing the classic fall pattern. This will bring cool mornings and comfortable afternoons, complemented by mostly sunny skies. The next chance of rain isn’t expected until the weekend, so drought conditions will need to be closely watched.

In the tropics, attention is on Invest 98-L, a strong tropical wave currently moving through the Windward Islands. The probability of it developing has risen to 70%, as the Caribbean environment this week is conducive to its progression, with the system expected to slow down.

While we still need to keep an eye on the track of this system, the active jet stream and frequent fronts moving through our region will help our cause. Whatever develops will be more of an issue for the Greater Antilles and eventually will be steered away from the United States. The next name on the list is “Melissa.”

At this time, there are no tropical threats for the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry.
