SAVANNAH, Ga. — A new weather system is set to impact the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry on Wednesday, bringing scattered showers during the afternoon and evening hours.
Currently, a cold front is advancing through the lower Mississippi River Valley, and by Tuesday evening, showers and thunderstorms are forming across Mississippi, Alabama, and western Georgia. The Coastal Empire and Lowcountry might experience a few passing showers Tuesday night.

Wednesday morning will dawn with mostly cloudy skies and occasional showers. Temperatures will hover in the 40s early on, climbing to the upper 50s and even low 60s as the cold front approaches.

After midday, rain showers are predicted to become more widespread, persisting into the early evening. By 10 p.m. Wednesday, the cold front is expected to have moved offshore.
While some of the rain could be heavy, overall precipitation amounts will range from 0.25″ to 0.50″. Although any rain is welcome amid an ongoing seasonal drought, Wednesday’s showers will only slightly alleviate the overall shortage. Currently, Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport reports a year-to-date deficit of 2.53″.

A colder Thursday is expected as high pressure and a northerly flow develop over the Southeastern U.S. Morning lows will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s with afternoon highs topping out in the lower 50s.
Friday morning will start with below-freezing temperatures, but the afternoon will be the beginning of a warming trend that sets up over the weekend and into next week.
Saturday and Sunday are expected to be mainly sunny and mild. Afternoon high temperatures will be able to warm into the lower to middle 60s.
Monday and into the middle of next week will become even warmer than the weekend. Afternoon high temperatures Monday through Wednesday will be in the mid to upper 60s. A few locations may warm into the lower 70s.
