Storm Team 3: Heat, humidity & storms continue this week

SAVANNAH, Ga. () – It’s a familiar pattern to kick off our Monday, with heat and the chance for storms once again in the forecast. Expect isolated showers and thunderstorms between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. this afternoon and evening, as temperatures climb into the mid to upper 90s.

A heat advisory remains in effect for Montgomery and Toombs counties from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today. The intense heat adds extra energy to the atmosphere, increasing the potential for any developing storms to become strong or even severe. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our area under a low-end risk for isolated severe storms this afternoon and evening.

Tomorrow will bring more isolated rain chances, but as we head into the middle and end of the week, scattered showers and storms become more likely. As rain coverage increases, high temperatures will ease back into the lower 90s.

This uptick in rain is tied to a newly formed low-pressure system off the coast, which is expected to move west across Florida and into the Gulf. The system currently has a 30% chance of developing into a tropical system by mid-to-late week. While it’s moving westward and poses no immediate threat locally, we’re monitoring it closely in case it increases our rain chances later this week.
