SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Brace yourself for another round of cold conditions Monday night into Tuesday morning before temperatures start to climb later in the week.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day began with a biting chill, as most of the region saw morning temperatures plummet into the 20s. Although the sun managed to provide some warmth, afternoon temperatures stayed roughly 10 degrees below the seasonal norm.

As Monday night transitions into Tuesday, prepare for another bout of cold weather. Temperatures are expected to fall below freezing everywhere except the immediate coastal areas, with many inland locations experiencing a hard freeze. It’s essential to safeguard the Four P’s: people, pets, plants, and pipes.

Tuesday will bring an increase in cloud cover and continue the chilly trend. However, the latter part of the week promises a warm-up, with mornings remaining brisk but afternoons reaching into the 60s.

On Thursday, expect some passing showers, though significant rainfall is unlikely during this abbreviated workweek. By Friday, afternoon highs could soar into the 70s.

Looking ahead, there will be a storm system tracking into the Southeast this weekend. It is simply too soon to nail down exact details regarding winter weather potential for the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry.

Saturday and Sunday will be colder and moisture moving in will give us rain chances at minimum.

Finer details will become clearer once guidance and the forecast factor in how cold air moves in and what it brings regarding the potential for a wintry mix.
