Storm Team 3: Hot, Humid, and Watching the Tropics

SAVANNAH, Ga. () – It’s shaping up to be another hot and humid day across the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry. Expect a mix of sun and clouds this afternoon with highs climbing into the low to mid 90s. Heat indices could reach the upper 90s and possibly even the low 100s, so stay hydrated and take it easy if you’re spending time outside.

The heat sticks around Thursday, but a cold front will begin pushing in late in the day. With that added heat and energy, a few strong to severe storms are possible Thursday afternoon and evening. The primary threat looks to be gusty winds and heavy downpours.

As the cold front slowly moves through Friday and Saturday, scattered storm chances linger, but temperatures will back off a bit. Highs will settle in the mid to upper 80s. That front stalls just offshore, keeping clouds around and bringing a continued chance for isolated showers and storms into Sunday and early next week.

Tropics Update: Eyes on Gabrielle and Two Invests

The bigger story today is in the tropics. Hurricane Gabrielle continues to stay well out in the Atlantic and is not expected to impact the U.S….good news there.

However, we’re now tracking two Invests:

Invest 93L is farther out in the Atlantic and, like Gabrielle, is expected to turn north toward Bermuda. This system looks to stay well offshore.

Invest 94L is a bit closer to the U.S. coast, and models are still not in agreement on its track. Most guidance suggests it will also curve north, but it may come closer to the Southeast coastline. While it’s too early to know exactly what it will do, tomorrow’s cold front could help steer it away from the coast. Still, it’s something to monitor closely, especially for potential coastal impacts early next week.
