ORLANDO, Fla. – Gusty northeast winds will continue across Central Florida tonight, with the strongest impacts along the coast. Increasing moisture will bring more numerous showers overnight, particularly near the shoreline. A few thunderstorms may develop as well, potentially producing brief periods of heavy rain.
Rain coverage is expected to increase Wednesday, with Brevard County and other coastal communities facing the greatest chances. Showers and isolated storms will repeatedly move inland from the Atlantic, creating pockets of torrential rain. Coastal locations could receive an additional inch or more, while isolated totals between 1 and 3 inches are possible, especially south of Cape Canaveral. Minor flooding may develop in low-lying areas and locations with poor drainage.
Dangerous Beach and Boating Conditions Continue
Northeast winds will remain strong along the Central Florida coast through Wednesday. The rough conditions will generate pounding surf, dangerous rip currents and continued beach erosion.
A Coastal Flood Warning and High Surf Advisory are in effect through 2 a.m. Friday. Higher-than-normal tides could worsen coastal flooding and erosion around high tide. Swimming and entering the ocean are strongly discouraged.
Marine conditions will also be hazardous. Gale Warnings cover portions of the Atlantic waters through 2 a.m. Wednesday, with Small Craft Advisories continuing from then through early Friday.
Winds should begin to weaken gradually Thursday and Friday, but the Atlantic will be slower to calm. Rough seas and dangerous surf are expected to linger even after the wind loses some strength.
A Little Less Wind, But Still Breezy
Conditions should show some improvement late in the week as winds ease. It will still feel breezy, especially near the coast, and a few passing showers cannot be ruled out Thursday and Friday.
Temperatures will remain above average for late October, with afternoon highs mainly reaching the lower to middle 80s.
Halloween Forecast: A Little Muggy, But Overall Looking Good
The Halloween forecast is shaping up well for trick-or-treaters Saturday evening. Conditions may be somewhat muggy, and a brief shower remains possible, especially near the coast, but widespread rain is not currently expected.
Evening temperatures should be comfortable, with readings generally in the 70s during trick-or-treating hours.
The stretch of warmer-than-usual weather is expected to continue into early next week, when highs will mostly remain in the 80s. Forecasters are also monitoring a developing weather pattern that could make conditions more unsettled across the Southeast. It is still too soon to know whether Central Florida will see any significant storms.
Daylight Saving Time ends early Sunday morning. At 2 a.m., clocks will move back one hour, giving everyone an extra hour of sleep this weekend.
