CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The season filled with players in and out of the lineup continues for Illinois basketball.
Against Wisconsin, Tomislav Ivisic battled another illness as he drove to the game separate from the team.
Jake Davis got the start, but played just eight minutes against the Badgers due to sickness.
Morez Johnson Jr.’s absence compounded the team’s struggles in a 21-point loss to Wisconsin, as he was sidelined with a broken wrist he sustained against Michigan State.
A difficult stretch of games await the Illini, including three ranked opponents over their final four regular season games.
The team knows the urgency of their current situation, holding each other accountable while trying to right the ship.
“We got to be on each other more for sure,” sophomore guard Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn said.
“That’s something we’ve been doing a lot this past week is just getting on each other and it’s nothing like not us trying to be mean to each other or be rude to each other it’s just we all want the same thing.”
“We all want to win, we’re all very passionate about it, so just letting that passion be shown for sure.”
Next up for Illinois is a neutral site game at Madison Square Garden against No. 3 Duke Saturday at 7:00 pm on FOX.
