AUGUSTA, Ga. () – A Heritage Academy student has been arrested after authorities say the student made what they are calling a terroristic threat.
The incident happened at Heritage Academy, which is located on Greene Street.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday, March 27th, a 14-year-old juvenile student became upset in the classroom and made a statement threatening to “shoot the school up.”
According to authorities, the Criminal Investigation Division launched an investigation, and after the juvenile was interviewed and admitted to making the remark, the student was arrested and committed to the Regional Youth Detention Center on the charge of Terroristic Threats and Acts.
Sheriff Eugene Brantley released a statement in regards to the incident stating:
“This is the second such incident within a week, and in both cases, our Criminal Investigators worked diligently to ensure those responsible were arrested. Threats of this nature, whether made on social media, by telephone, or in person, will be taken seriously, and appropriate felony charges will be pursued.
“Our schools should be a safe haven for our most valuable resources — our children and future leaders. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to doing everything within our power to protect our children and ensure their safety.”
