SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A man was arrested Saturday in Sullivan County and charged with three counts of aggravated statutory rape following an indictment by a grand jury.
According to court documents obtained by News Channel 11, Logan B. Starnes was indicted in Sullivan County Criminal Court in July, arrested on Saturday, and released on bond on Sunday.
A grand jury presentment detailed that Starnes allegedly committed three counts of aggravated statutory rape between Oct. 6 and 7, 2024.
The indictment said a panel of jurors determined Starnes did allegedly unlawfully engage in sexual acts with a person older than age 13, but younger than age 18.
Court documents added that Starnes was at the time “at least ten (10) years older than [the victim] contrary to Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 39-13-506.” That offense is reportedly a Class D felony.
The indictment lists several witnesses as having provided testimony or statements, including a prosecutor with the Kingsport Police Department, a member of the Department of Children’s Services and numerous citizens.
District Attorney General Barry Staubus signed and approved the indictment. Starnes was reportedly given a $50,000 bond upon his arrest and was released after posting bail Sunday.
Starnes’ next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 10 at 9 a.m.
