Sunday: Stronger Wind Gusts, Higher Rain Chances
ORLANDO, Fla. – Sunday is expected to bring the strongest winds and heaviest rain of the weekend.
Northeast winds may reach 20 to 25 mph, with gusts between 35 and 45 mph. A Wind Advisory, Coastal Flood Warning, Small Craft Advisory, Gale Warning and High Surf Advisory are in effect. Waves could reach 6 to 12 feet along the beaches and 10 to 15 feet offshore.
High tides Sunday and Monday morning are expected to create the greatest concern for coastal flooding.
People are strongly discouraged from entering the ocean this weekend. Even a walk along the beach could be dangerous, particularly near high tide when large waves may surge farther up the shoreline.
Rain chances will rise to about 40% west of the 95 corridor and as high as 60% along the coast. The Weather Prediction Center has placed much of the coastal area under a Level 1 of 4 risk for excessive rainfall. Several rounds of showers could trigger localized flooding, especially if heavier rain bands repeatedly move across the same locations.
Next Week: Still Breezy, but Fewer Showers
Strong northeast winds will persist into Monday, when a few fast-moving showers will also be possible, mainly near the coast.
Rain chances should gradually decline through the week, though occasional coastal showers may continue.
Afternoon temperatures will remain near 80 degrees each day, leaving much of Central Florida slightly cooler than usual for late October.
Conditions inland should become calmer, but dangerous surf and boating conditions may continue into next week. Persistent northeast winds will keep pushing water toward the coast, maintaining the risks of beach erosion and coastal flooding.
