Suspect Apprehended Months Following Fatal Shooting at Hillsborough County RV Park

THONOTOSASSA, Fla. (WFLA) — After a prolonged investigation, authorities announced Friday that they have apprehended a suspect linked to a fatal shooting at a Hillsborough County RV park.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reported that Malik Rashad Cook, 19, was taken into custody on Dec. 18 in Pasco County for the murder of 23-year-old Talando House.

The investigation kicked off on June 29 following reports of gunfire at the Happy Traveler’s RV Resort in Thonotosassa. House was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Initially, the identity of the shooter remained unknown, but deputies said their thorough investigation eventually identified Cook as the suspect. Detectives suspect the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the two individuals.

“This suspect may have believed he escaped accountability, but our detectives remained relentless,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “While nothing can undo this family’s loss, we hope this arrest provides some measure of comfort as the case moves forward.”
