AIKEN, S.C. () – The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in connection with a recent murder at a local motel.

32-year-old Dante Jamal Breeland was arrested Wednesday, charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.

Breeland is charged in the murder of 25-year-old Nyasia Dowling.

On January 20, Aiken County law enforcement responded to a call of shots fired at American Hearth on Richland Avenue West. Upon arrival, deputies located a deceased woman in a room, with at least one gunshot wound to the body. She was pronounced dead on scene at 5:15 am.

“I commend our investigators on their efforts in bringing some resolution to this investigation. Even though we have an arrest in this case, we still have a lot of work ahead of us,” said Sheriff Marty Sawyer.

Breeland is currently being held without bond at Aiken County Detention Center
