RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. — A man arrested on Friday for a shooting incident earlier this month is also linked to another shooting that took place the same day.

Dennis Lamar Berrien was wanted in connection with a December 4th shooting involving his girlfriend. According to reports, during an argument, Berrien allegedly fired at least three shots towards her before escaping the scene, also causing damage to his girlfriend’s grandmother’s car.

The other shooting occurred on December 26th on the 2300 block of Winston Way. Investigators report that Berrien shot Shaquille Jones, who sustained critical injuries and was taken for medical care.

Berrien was apprehended at an AM PM gas station. He was seen leaving the restroom in clothing that matched descriptions provided by witnesses.

Authorities revealed that Berrien attempted to mislead them by giving a fake name and birth date. However, a fingerprint scanner confirmed his identity, and he was arrested without further incident.

During the encounter, Berrien provided a false name and date of birth to Investigator Christopher Brown. Corporal Eric Varner then utilized a fingerprint scanner, which confirmed Berrien’s true identity. He was taken into custody without incident.

Sheriff Eugene Brantley stated, “This arrest highlights the strength of our coordinated response and the professionalism of our deputies. From patrol to investigators, K9 handlers, and the use of technology like drones and fingerprint scanners, our team worked seamlessly to take a dangerous individual into custody without further harm to the public.”

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. Berrien is currently in custody and faces charges related to both shooting incidents, and additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigations continue.

Authorities say Shaquille Jones, the victim in Friday’s shooting, is currently in critical condition.
