Man arrested after he allegedly rammed into police cars during chase

JASPER COUNTY, S.C. () — A man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly rammed into Lowcountry law enforcement during a chase in a stolen car Friday.

The pursuit was initiated in Hampton County by the Yemassee Police Department (YPD). A spokesperson said that Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies were notified and joined the pursuit on I-95 around exit 22.

During the pursuit, the driver, Gregory Lamar Fort, allegedly rammed into multiple law enforcement vehicles intentionally, which placed officers and the public at serious risk, a JCSO spokesperson said.

Jasper County deputies continued assisting until exit 18 where Fort was taken into custody.

Fort is charged with two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, two counts of property damage and possession of a stolen vehicle. He is also reportedly facing additional charges from the YPD.
