ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) — A man wanted in connection to a shooting in Johnson County was arrested in Elizabethton Thursday.

According to an arrest report from the Elizabethton Police Department (EPD), officers received a BOLO regarding Michael Nelson, who was wanted for attempted second-degree murder after a “shoot out” in Johnson County.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office previously reported that a man had been shot multiple times Wednesday and was transported to a hospital. As of Thursday, the sheriff’s office reported he was in stable condition.

The EPD reported Nelson was believed to be driving a stolen 2011 silver Honda CRV.

Just after midnight, an EPD officer located the Honda traveling on North Sycamore Street.

The vehicle reportedly traveled to Lynnwood Apartments, and a traffic stop was conducted.

Officers on the scene began to give verbal commands to the driver, later identified by police as Erin Church. Nelson was a passenger at the time of the traffic stop, the EPD reported.

Church and Nelson were then arrested, and both were charged with possession of stolen property by the EPD.

Church was taken to the Carter County Sheriff’s Detention Center, and Nelson was transferred to Johnson County authorities. According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Nelson was being held on a $220,000 bond as of Thursday afternoon.

The EPD reports Nelson told police he placed a weapon behind the driver’s seat.

News Channel 11 has reached out to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office for more information.
