VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Volusia deputies and police shot and killed someone who charged at them with a knife in a home near Daytona Beach on Saturday, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded around 9:30 p.m. to a stabbing reported out of the 1400 block of Derbyshire Road, locating two people with multiple stab wounds — a 16-year-old boy and a 39-year-old man — and learning the suspect was still inside the residence, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said on social media.

After calling for the suspect to come out and learning an additional person could be in the house, the deputies teamed up with police to reenter the home and search for more potential victims, the post states.

“As the team moved through the house, the suspect suddenly charged out of a bedroom door, screaming with a large knife raised above his head,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “The suspect was shot multiple times by law enforcement and was pronounced deceased on scene.”

The release states police from Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach and Holly Hill also responded to the incident, adding no deputies or officers were injured.

The two stabbing victims were taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of their injuries and were in stable condition at last check, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting, the release states. The deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, following protocol, according to the sheriff’s office.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood will hold a news conference about the shooting at 11 a.m. Monday, July 7.
