COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. () – The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office narcotics team is investigating a substance that was found at Greenbrier High School that authorities state could potentially contain fentanyl.

According to a notification sent to parents by the school administration, a Greenbrier High School student picked up a rolled-up dollar bill off the ground at a gas station parking lot off campus, and when the bill was unrolled in one of the classrooms, a small amount of an unknown white, powdery substance fell into the student’s lap.

Administrators state that the Columbia County School District Police was immediately contacted.

According to administrators, a field test showed that the substance potentially contained fentanyl.

Administrators say the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office narcotics team was contacted to confiscate the substance for more conclusive testing.

Administrators also say that several other students and the one teacher that were in the classroom at the time did not come into direct contact with the substance, and they say the class was temporarily relocated to an alternate location in the school while the hazardous materials professionals cleaned and sanitized the room.

Authorities say there have been no reports of reactions to the substance at this time.
