AUGUSTA, Ga. () – In the early hours of Thursday, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was deployed in response to a Be On the Look Out (BOLO) alert for a suspect wanted in connection with an incident in Columbia County.
Officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of Harvey Drive where they encountered a barricaded individual, identified as 39-year-old Jonathan Elisha Denham.
This action stemmed from an incident on Wednesday when Columbia County deputies were called to a residence in Grovetown following reports of a rape.
The victim, a 14-year-old girl, informed authorities that she and Denham had gone into the woods behind Parker’s Kitchen on Jimmy Dyess Parkway, where he allegedly assaulted her.
By 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, NewsChannel 6 reported that Denham had been taken into custody. He was subsequently handed over to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
At 7:00 am Thursday, NewsChannel 6 received word that Denham suspect was in custody and turned over to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office for their investigation.
NewsChannel 6’s Gabriel Stovall spoke with Corporal Johnson from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, “RCSO assisted Columbia County with a suspect who’d been arrested before. Had been tracking him through the night, found him at this address, gave him opportunity to surrender on his own, when he wouldn’t they came in and got him, found him hiding under the bed. Was taken into custody without incident.”
Authorities say this individual has been arrested before for similar incidents. He was under probation, felony probation, and the time that he allegedly committed this other crime.
