SWVA United Way awarded $150k grant for disaster recovery, preparedness

The United Way of Southwest Virginia has announced that it has been awarded a substantial disaster recovery grant totaling $150,397 from the Appalachian Helene Fund. This financial boost is set to make a significant impact in the region, as disclosed in a statement released on Monday.

Megan Parks, the Executive Director of United Way of Southwest Virginia, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for this crucial funding, emphasizing its importance to the community. “We are deeply grateful for this investment in our region,” she stated in the news release. “It empowers us to continue supporting our neighbors when they need us most, both during immediate crises and throughout the lengthy process of rebuilding.”

The grant is poised to enhance the region’s disaster response infrastructure significantly, with a particular focus on ongoing recovery efforts related to Hurricane Helene. This initiative underscores the United Way’s commitment to bolstering the community’s capacity to respond to such challenges effectively.
