Tampa Family Sues Apartment Complex Over Lax Security After Mother is Fatally Shot at Birthday Party

A Tampa woman, who suffered a gunshot wound to the head during a birthday celebration in September, is at the center of a lawsuit against her apartment complex, filed by her attorneys and family. They claim that inadequate security measures contributed to the incident.

The incident occurred on September 19, 2025, when 26-year-old Enrinique Moore attended a pajama-themed birthday party for a family member at the RiverTree Landing Apartments. The gathering was disrupted when three unexpected guests made their way in.

These intruders soon found themselves in a heated argument with one of the attendees, which escalated and spilled out into the open.

As detailed in court filings, Lamonte Scott, one of the defendants, drove into the apartment complex’s parking area and began banging on the apartment door, urging the people inside to step out and engage in a physical confrontation.

Hillsborough County deputies were called to the scene after the defendant and another woman began kicking at the door, but left when the woman said there was no disturbance. After deputies left, the two began kicking at the door again.

Prosecutors said it was at this point that a witness looking through the door’s peephole saw Scott draw a gun.

“The defendant displayed the firearm and exclaimed, ‘The party’s gonna end and you hoes
gotta come out at some point,’” a pretrial detention motion stated.

The door was eventually opened when two partygoers left the apartment, and a struggle began as the uninvited woman kick the door to enter.

Prosecutors said after the door slammed, Scott ran off the front porch and fired several rounds into the apartment from outside a bedroom window.

One of the women was grazed in the back of the head by a bullet, but Moore was not so lucky, getting shot in the left center part of her forehead.

She was hospitalized at Tampa General Hospital for the life-threatening injury. An X-ray photo of the injury showed the bullet’s path straight through the 26-year-old’s skull.

Both the defendant and the other woman, who was later revealed to be his domestic partner and mother of his child, drove off from the scene.

Prosecutors said both the woman who was grazed by the bullet and his domestic partner identified Scott as the gunman in the incident. He was said to have multiple previous felony convictions, the most recent being burglary in August 2024.

Scott was charged with numerous offenses, including attempted murder in the second degree and aggravated battery.
