TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A violent altercation in Tampa on Monday has resulted in the arrest of a 33-year-old suspect, following a shooting incident that left one individual injured.
The Tampa Police Department (TPD) reported that the shooting unfolded near the crossroads of North 27th Street and East 97th Avenue, marking yet another troubling incident in the area.
Authorities were called to the scene shortly after 4 p.m., responding to urgent reports of gunfire. Witnesses described seeing a man in an orange hoodie fleeing the area shortly after shots rang out.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body, necessitating immediate medical attention.
Officers said they provided life-saving care until Tampa Fire Rescue arrived and took the victim to the hospital, where he remains in critical, but stable condition.
Police believe the victim and the suspect, later identified as Emanuel Watson, knew each other and had been involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical. Watson then allegedly produced a firearm and shot the victim multiple times before fleeing.
Officers found Watson in the backyard of a home in the 10000 block of North 26th Street and detained him without incident.
Watson was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a weapon, and possession of a controlled substance, according to TPD.
