LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – The son of a Tavares councilmember is accused of possessing, sharing and creating child pornography among other such crimes, according to police.

Cole Singer, 22, faces charges of producing child pornography, lewd and lascivious behavior, lewd and lascivious molestation, lewd and lascivious conduct, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, 10 counts of transmission of child pornography (10 or more images) and 14 counts of possession of child pornography (10 or more images), court records show.

According to affidavits of probable cause, Tavares police began investigating Singer in February as tips started coming in from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that he was allegedly sharing child pornography with others through X and Snapchat.

Further, a separate investigation that began in April found that Singer had allegedly influenced an underaged coworker to perform oral sex on him several years ago and filmed it while it happened, an affidavit states.

Singer was arrested on Wednesday and is being held on $400,000 bond at the Lake County Detention Center, records show. This follows his previous arrest in April, which was in connection to the first investigation. He’s due back in court next month.

Cole Singer is the son of Tavares councilmember Troy Singer. In statements, the city told News 6 in part that it was aware of the arrest.

“Where this matter is a personal matter and does not involve the councilmember in their official capacity, it does not pertain to City business or operations (…) The city respects the legal process and understands that all individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law,” the statements read. “The City remains focused on serving the public with professionalism and integrity.”
