BURKE COUNTY, Ga ()- A Burke County woman is in jail after being arrested Sunday and charged with cruelty to children in the first degree. She is accused of beating her 14-year-old grandson on a regular basis.

The Burke County sheriff’s Office was called to Burke County High School Friday afternoon for a child abuse complaint.

The teen was in the counselor’s office and told law enforcement that his grandmother, Patricia Green, a nurse at Doctors Hospital, beat him almost every night.

The incident report says that officers noticed several wounds, including a busted lip, laceration to the top of his head and bruising to his left arm. The teen told police that the cut on his head was from being hit with a dustpan.

The teen also told officers that his grandmother drinks a lot and becomes physically abusive when she is drunk. He added that his grandfather tries to intervene, but that Green gets physical with him when he does. Then she calls the police when he tries to defend himself or the teen. The report notes that the grandfather has been previously arrested.

Investigators went to the teen’s home and spoke with his grandfather who corroborated what the teen told police. He said his wife is a heavy drinker and is angry for not receiving child support for the teen, so she takes it out on him. The grandparents currently have full custody of the teen. He also said there is another male juvenile living in the house, but she doesn’t abuse him.

The grandfather urged the teen to speak to a counselor at school about the situation, because he didn’t feel he was able to help him.

He agreed to turn his wife in to law enforcement and not tell her they were aware of the situation, appreciating that an arrest would be made.
